Discussion:
I am leaving this list because it is censored

I have sent an email to this list which has not been received by its
recipients. I consider that censorship is always bad. There is reason to
moderate someone's opinion, even if it contrary to ours or if it can
cause discomfort to someone else. The only reason to moderate a message
is because it is spam.

Aggressiveness on a verbal form can be controlled by convincing users
they will obtain better results if it is avoided, not by censorship.

I will wait until someone refutes the fact that my mail was moderated.
Otherwise, I will leave this list on Monday.

Thank you very much for all the information that we have shared for the
creation of a World with more freedom.

I don't recall seeing an email from you in the queue. Among the options
moderators have are to "reject" an email or "discard" it. The former
results in you getting a email telling you of the rejection along with
the moderator's comments, if any. I've always given comment though I
don't know if all admin/moderators are doing that. (We haven't been
doing this long enough to discuss convention.) So, I take it you didn't
get a rejection email, e.g. it's in your spam folder?

The "discard" button is more for obviously forged spam and the email is
silently dropped.

You could try sending your original again if you really think it's apt
for the list.

Cheers, Ralph.

I haven't, as I didn't notice that functionality, but happy to do so from now on. I don't recall rejecting your message, but it's possible.

Harald has already spoken of a "list policy" or similar, to guide members and moderators as to what is appropriate and what is not. I honestly feel that, after all the years this list has been running, it is a shame that it has been felt necessary to switch to a moderated mode, but I hope that this is but a temporary feature, as list etiquette restores itself.

Thank you for all the responses. It shows the importance you give to the
issue.

I will not send my message again. But I will stay on the list unless I
can be sure that my messages (or anyone's) have been censored. I would
not like to see messages censored by any standards. I would like to be
the only one to decide what I read and what I don't because I consider
everyones expressions valuable (regardless of their intent or position).

that's great.... but may i please gently remind you (and everyone
else) of the rules that you (and everyone else) agreed to abide by -
i.e. the contract that you implicitly entered into by signing up by
using the resources at the gpl-violations.org domain. here is where
you can read that:

Thank you for reminding me. I agree with those "rules". But I don't like
that name. I'd rather follow "recommendations". That creates an
environment of consensus and not of impositions. In case someone does
not agree with them, it is easier to help them find their need and
collaborate more effectively towards towards everyone's needs.

I am even tempted to change the topic to "I am staying on this list for
its respect of its users" :-)

I have decided to leave this list because my emails have been censored.
I do not believe in censorship in any way. I I decide to be rude,
off-topic or crazy, I am not going to tolerate that anyone decide for me
if it is good or not. I do not feel anyone in this list or anywhere
should censored. You are free to prove my statements wrong or even say
false things about me. But I hold my freedom or speech, they will not
hurt me or others.

Farewell. I will unsubcribe tomorrow so today I can read people's
reactions to my unsubscription email.

I am personally sorry to hear that you are leaving the list. I can only
say that freedom of speech comes with responsibilities and doesn't,
shouldn't gives us license to say whatever we want to say. I will hope you
will consider staying and rewording your emails if ever rejected. I know a
few of mine have been rejected in the past however I am staying.

I'm pretty sure I saw your e-mails on the list Quiliro, 2 mails on the
'Would like to form a pool ...' thread. Unless there was more that I
missed; only did a quick search on your first name in my inbox.

There might be a bigger delay then what we are used to, but I don't
think your e-mails are being censored.

I do hope you reconsider and stay.

No, I'm sure there was one I rejected, with explanation, that was
probably from Quiliro.

Yes, there was one.

Thank you all for your good intentions of wishing I do not unsubscribe.
But it is a question of principle. As with free software, nobody should
control what you do. It is enough that someone convinces you nicely.
Censoring is excessive. Bowung down to [any] authority is not in my
principles. I believe in consensus alone.

I fact, in the Trisquel users' mailing list there are some people that
do not comply with the distro guidelines and we use the opportunity to
educate them and help them comply. But nobody has censored them. This is
the way it should be from my point of view. People can be reasonable if
you accept them as they are and try to understand their feelings. Then
they will give back what you have given them. In this case, censorship
causes either subjugation or resentment. Either is bad in the long run.

just leave already. Your victimization is silly, and for how long will
you keep dragging the "I will leave!" Prima Donna act?

If this was a case of continued censorhip, It'd be one thing, but
youre writing a novel based on a single filtered mesage. Even worse,
you re writing a novel and acting it as an opera.

Grow up, please...
